Confirmation Event for Year Six pupils from St Edward’s and St Thomas More Catholic Primary Schools

On 20th June, Year Six pupils from St Edward’s and St Thomas More Catholic Primary Schools came together at St Edward’s Church hall to share some prayer, activities and reflection on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Children worked  in mixed groups, each group focusing on one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. In their groups, they collaboratively created an image/symbol to represent their fruit, wrote a prayer to share based on their fruit, found a Scripture reference linked to their fruit and demonstrated an understanding of their fruit through, for example, art, song, drama, dance or poetry. The children’s collaborative efforts were impressive, very creative and their prayers very humbling. After completing these activities, they presented their work to parents in the church. Finally, at the end of the day, the children enjoyed a Confirmation Tea together in the Church hall.

After first learning about St Luke, the children settled quickly into their groups and it was a pleasure to observe them working together so co-operatively and finally confidently presenting  information on all the school saints to each other, before taking their Power Points back to share in their schools. The Power Points are attached below.

Gymnastics Event – April 2017

A Trust Gymnastics Event took place for Years 3 and 4 on 21st April at St Brendan’s. It was agreed that St. Brendan’s organised a great event. The behaviour, attitude and sportsmanship of all the children was outstanding – especially in a competition that involved a lot of waiting around! The encouragement and interaction between all four schools in the Trust was apparent and the links between schools are getting stronger.

St Luke Academies Trust schools supported Mary’s Meals Backpack Project again during Lent. Mary’s Meals is a charity that sets up projects in some of the world’s poorest communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. Children from across our schools collected items such as pens, pencils, notebooks and clothing to fill backpacks with all the requested items to allow children in these communities to make the most of their education. Approximately 60 complete back packs containing all the required items were collected – Well done to everyone who supported this appeal!

Mary’s Meals Backpack Project

This year, St Luke Academies Trust schools supported Mary’s Meals Backpack Project. Mary’s Meals is a charity that sets up projects in some of the world’s poorest communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. Mary’s Meals provide a daily meal in a place of learning to attract chronically poor children into the classroom where they receive an education which can set them free from poverty in later life.
The backpack project is a simple way of helping children in poor communities to get the best out of school. Children from across our schools collected items like pens, pencils, notebooks and clothing to fill backpacks with all the requested items to allow children in these communities to make the most of their education. We collected 103 completely filled backpacks and also raised some money for Mary’s Meals. Pupils in each school were keen to help with packing the backpacks with the required items and then parcelling them up to send to Mary’s Meals. The filled backpacks will be sent to children who really need them. Well done to everyone who supported this worthwhile cause!
